Born To Die

Born to Die

2 Corinthians 5: 21- He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

You may read the title and say, “Well yeah, we all are born to die I guess.” While this is true for all of us, I would like to point our attention to the 2nd person of the trinity, God the Son. We celebrate the Son of God, who was born of a virgin and took on flesh, but was still Fully God and Fully Man. Wow! Although we are all technically “born to die”, none of us can make that claim to be Fully God and Fully Man. The Everlasting Father, and Eternal King of Glory, was born meek and lowly as a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes in a manger.

We will often comment on something and say, “that’s perfect”. Relatively speaking, whatever that thing is that we are commenting on may be “perfect”, in the sense that it seems that way to us. However perfect we think something is, it is never absolutely perfect. If we were to look close enough at all our “perfect” things, we would no doubt, find imperfections. The beauty of Christ is that He (being perfect) took on OUR sin. The scripture tells us that He (God) made Him (Jesus Christ) who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (Jesus Christ).

This man was foretold in the scriptures “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Price of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of host will accomplish this.” (Isa 9:6-7)

When John saw Jesus coming to him, he said “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).

The beauty of the birth of Christ, is the death of Christ. We cannot help but to marvel at the fact that God caused this perfect man to become sin, but not in vain; it was so that we could be reconciled to God! So that we might “become the righteousness of God”. Jesus Christ was born to die as our substitute. The wrath of God that we fully deserved was taken on by the sinless Son of God.

On our best day, we are vile wretched sinners. We all tend think more highly of ourselves than we ought. In our fallen nature, that is only natural for us to do, but how amazing is it to celebrate the fact that those of us who are “In Christ” can rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

For anyone reading that has not trusted in Jesus Christ alone for Salvation, I want to remind you that Jesus Christ came to save sinners! The bad news is that you are guilty and facing the wrath of God. You have offended Gods law, and no matter how highly you think of yourself, you are by no means perfect. The Gospel literally means “the good news”. The good news is that you do not have to be perfect, because Jesus was perfect for you! The greatest story ever told is the story of our Savior, Jesus Christ. God shows His love for us and this man that was “born to die”, died for us while we were still sinners! Repent and believe the gospel.
